The Food Court at Lakeside Shopping Centre has recently undergone
a major refurbishment by Main Contractor Ellmer Construction
of Kingston-upon-Thames to the designs of The Building &
Theme Company, based in Altrincham. The Food Court bears a
now familiar format of numerous food outlets around the edges
with communal eating areas between. At Lakeside, however,
since the Court is on Level Three, a large irregularly shaped
central well with views down through the Shopping Centre plus
two lesser wells at the sides, have been used to break up
the eating areas into smaller, less impersonal units. Safety
factors for these wells were clearly a priority but also it
was essential to provide barriers that were welcoming but
unobtrusive and of superior appearance but extremely hardwearing.
